The Civil Engineering Faculty may be counted among the largest faculties of the Cracow University of Technology in terms of the faculty and staff quality and number as well as in terms of the student number. Altogether 3000 students follow courses at our Faculty. The courses are organized either as full-time study or part-time study (sessions on Friday evenings and during weekends).

Majority of students used to follow one-level MSc studies, lasting 5 years. But, in conformance to the Bolonia process, this system of education is currently being phased out (beginning with 2007/2008 academic year) in favor of two tier studies: engineering studies (undergraduate, equivalent to BSc, called in Poland 1st cycle studies) and master level studies (graduate, leading to MSc, called 2nd cycle studies). The Faculty offers curricula in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Spatial management (the last one jointly with other faculties), with 21 majors. Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering have been approved by the State Accreditation Board.

Accreditation is a formal agreement by the State Committee to teach students within a certain area of knowledge, issued after a thorough inspection of study programs, teaching cadre and widely understood quality of instruction. One should mention here, among others, the housing conditions, quality of laboratories, organization of financial support for students and PhD students, activity of Student Research Circles, organization of international exchange, distance learning, broadening of the teaching offer tailored to the needs of the market, organization of student internships, monitoring of the educational outcomes and the graduate careers. The obligatory accreditation by the Polish Accreditation Committee is performed every five years. The Faculty itself applied for the Accreditation by the Accreditation Committee for Technical Universities (KAUT ). Possession of the KAUT certificate is a prestigious distinction (KAUT is a member of ENA EE – European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education). The information on the accreditations granted to the Faculty may be found in the diploma supplements issued to each graduate after successful completion of studies.

    Besides educational activity our Faculty staff is active in the following research fields:
  • building materials and products,
  • experimental assessment and design of civil engineering structures and structural elements,
  • energy saving and environment-friendly buildings,
  • organization and management of building and transportation processes,
  • mechanics of material and structures,
  • computational methods in the theory of structures and mechanics of materials.

Our Faculty employs about 220 people in teaching and research, including 50 full and associate professors. Because of this high research and teaching potential, the Faculty is authorized to confer the titles of Doctor (PhD) and Doctor with so-called in Polish "habilitacja" (DSc) in two scientific areas: Civil Engineering and Mechanics.

    Students majoring in Civil Engineering may earn a Bachelor in Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) degree following a 3.5 years (7 semesters) plan. The Master study program allows students to earn a Master of Science in Engineering (MSc) degree following additional 1.5 years (3 semesters) plan, while specializing in one of 19 areas.
  • If you choose weekend schedule:
    Students majoring in Civil Engineering may earn a Bachelor in Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) degree following a 4.5 years (9 semesters) plan. The Master study program allows students to earn a Master of Science in Engineering (MSc) degree following additional 2 years (4 semesters) plan, while specializing in one of 12 areas.
  • Holders of M.Sc. degree in Engineering may enroll in a doctoral program leading to Ph.D. in Engineering and Transportation.

The graduate majoring in Civil Engineering gains extended knowledge and skills in the design and erection of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber structures, as well as in the design and erection of all types of bridge structures commonly used in contemporary civil engineering. The graduate acquires extensive skills in the use of modern computer modeling techniques, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Management (BIM) tools. The graduate acquires skills in the domain of planning and management of construction projects, building company management and conducting market activities and negotiations.
